Breeding conditions:

Arctic Foxes bred in small numbers, while most of the animals were non-breeders. Rough-legged Buzzard, Snowy Owl and Pomarine Skua did not breed, but unusual for the site record of nesting Short-eared Owls was made. Bewick's Swans nested at a lower density, 0.98 nest/sq.km, than in early seasons 2002-2003. Ross's Gulls and Grey Phalaropes bred in 2003, but not in 2004. Breeding ducks included Pintail, Greater Scaup, Long-tailed Duck, King and Spectacled eiders, all successfully. Spectacled Eider nested at a density 1.89 nest/sq.km, and reproductive success was high, 28.7%. Nesting waders included Grey Plover, Turnstone, Curlew Sandpiper (lower density than in 2003), Pectoral Sandpiper, Sharp-tailed Sandpiper (unconfirmed), Dunlin, Red-necked Phalarope and Long-billed Dowitcher. |
